8 Must Have IPad Apps

Posted by: Admin  /  Category: Gadgets

Apple has finally fully released the iPad, a magical and revolutionary device, as they say. Both the Wi-fi only and 3G versions are on sale and ready to be used by their buyers. While the iPad may not seem that magical to tech savvy people, it certainly is so to those who are just starting out with computers, like elders and children.

While its magical properties are in question, there is little doubt that it is a revolutionary device. The iPad is a full fledged universal computer that fits inside a small, almost perfectly sized and lightweight case that is extremely portable and has a long battery life. It can do any light tasks that your laptop and desktop can – from reading emails to surfing the web and editing documents.

Actually, its real limits are still being tested every day, by people and developers who turn it into whatever they want, from a store cash register to a small personal DJ turntable. Maybe you don’t want to use it like that, but there are a couple of apps that you will definitely benefit from, no matter what your personal preferences and occupation are. Here are the best of them:

Taska. This is one of the best task and project management apps for the iPad (of course, there’s Things, but that one costs 4 times as much at $20 while not having much more to offer). It has a very nice interface that emulates papers on a table, and lets you do almost anything you’d like with your tasks, small projects and to do lists. It employs the Getting Things Done system, the most popular and effective around.

Twitterrific. Whether you are a celebrity, employee or small business owner, you most definitely already have a Twitter account. Twitterrific is the best client you can find for the iPad, hands down. It has a very nicely structured interface that lets you view all the latest tweets and perform any tasks like replying, posting images and videos, quickly and intuitively.

iBooks. This is a very good ebook reader that comes standard with the iPad, though you may have to install it manually on some models. It allows you to have a great reading experience with 3D animation effects when flipping pages, opening books and scrolling through the library (which is also very well animated and resembles a real life library, with all the books on shelves). iBooks and the Apple ebooks marketplace can give Amazon and their Kindle a run for their money any time of the day.

Evernote. Evernote is the perfect companion application. It allows you to save pages and bookmarks for later viewing, take written, audio and even video notes, save any files you need, and do much more things that will keep you organized. And with it being available for Mac and Windows and having an online web app, you can easily sync all your information between all of your devices and the online account.

Memeo Connect Reader. If you’re using Google apps (and you definitely should try them out), you’ll find this iPad app very useful. It allows you to sync all of your local files with those in your Google account, and lets you view any kind of file, from PDFs to video and audio files. For now, you can’t edit the files directly inside Memeo, but let’s hope this feature will be implemented in future releases. You can, however, edit them using the iPad’s Safari browser, then sync them using Memeo (I found that a good alternative to paid apps that allow you to edit Google Docs files).

Top 5 Digital SLR Cameras

Posted by: Admin  /  Category: Gadgets

There are a lot of types of digital cameras available, from compact travel ones that can be used by anyone to big, bulky dSLR’s (digital Single Reflex Lens) that can be effectively used only by professionals with experience.

While almost all newer digital cameras are good for taking good quality pictures, if you want to take it one step further and make studio-quality shots with a lot of special effects that are very hard to do, you’ll pretty much need a DSLR camera.

They have the highest picture quality (because of the type of lens and sensor used) and the widest selection of features, mostly aimed at pros that need to tune them manually, so they lack the automatic features that the usual consumer cameras have.

Every single professional photographer uses either a dSLR camera, or an older professional SLR one (if they’re really into old-school stuff). If you want to make professionally looking photos or are training to become a good professional photographer, you’ll definitely need to get a dSRL for yourself.

Below are some of the best models from different manufacturers available on the market (I won’t talk about the lens, as they deserve a separate discussion by themselves).

Nikon D700. This is the most expensive camera on this list, and for good reasons. It is technically one of the best dSLR’s ever created, and a lot of professional photographers use it. It’s got Nikon’s original FX-format (23.9×36mm) 12.1 megapixels sensor, the EXPEED digital image processing technology, an incredibly low noise and an ISO 6400 sensitivity, a 3 inch super-dense 921,000 pixels VGA display, two live view modes (tripod and hand-held), magnesium alloy construction, ultrasonic sensor cleaning, and much, much more. You practically can’t go wrong when selecting this dSLR camera.

Canon EOS Digital Rebel T2i. The new Digital Rebel from Canon brings in a lot more features for the users and an improved, lightweight body. This is the top of the line EOS Rebel, replacing the T1. The specs are nothing short of amazing: the camera features an 18 megapixels CMOS sensor, Full HD support, increased light sensitivity, Live View, the ability to shoot 4 frames per second in burst mode, SDXC cards support, 63 zone metering, and much more. The video is encoded with H.264, which allows for more filming time than usual Mov video cameras, and the camera has an external microphone jack which is great if you need quality video/audio recording.

Sony Alpha DSLR-A450. This is one of Sony’s dSLR cameras. They have other models, both more expensive and cheaper. This one is positioned by them as a middle-class professional dSLR. It’s very good for any shots, but if you need bigger images or even better quality, you may want to choose a higher-end camera. The specs are pretty standard for a dSLR: it’s got a 14 megapixels sensor, SteadyShot Inside (that’s the full name) image stabilization technology, a lot of shot modes and manual adjustment possibilities, and other things.

Canon EOS 50D. This is another model from Canon. The EOS 50D is a great middle-class dSLR with a lot of features that will make the owners of older higher-end dSLR’s envious. It has a 15 megapixels APS-C sized sensor, a 6 frames per second fast shooting mode, 3 inch 920,000 pixels LCD for high-quality image viewing, and a great selection of both manual and automatic modes. This dSLR camera is a great choice for anyone, from novices to seasoned professionals.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-L10K. The last camera on this list is Panasonic’s last true dSLR, which still uses lens. Their newer models have switched to a fully electronic system, which is not necessarily bad, but it’s new and the quality just isn’t as high as that of the time tested Single Reflex Lens technology. The good thing about this camera is that it dropped in price since it’s considered an older model. But the specs are still impressive and enough for any novice, amateur or even some professional photographers. It’s got a 10 megapixels sensor, full time live view, a flexible, swiveling 2.5 inch display (which gives you a greater flexibility when shooting anything that’s not right in front of you), Panasonic’s face detection technology, and much more. A thing to remember is that this is a four thirds camera, so it’ll not work with some full size lens, and you’ll need a converter if you’re going to use them anyway.

As I said, you’ll need a dSLR if you want to go pro or just take the highest quality pictures possible. The above cameras are very good, but you can also go for cheaper or more expensive models if you don’t want to spend a lot of money or want to have more features and possibilities, respectively.

Top 5 Feature – Rich Compact Cameras

Posted by: Admin  /  Category: Gadgets

Digital cameras are a must for anyone nowadays. They give people the ability to save and remember the best moments of life, not only in still shots, but also in motion pictures. And because of the prices they retail for these days, there’s no reason not to get one.

There are a lot of types of digital cameras, from big, professional dSLR (digital Single Reflex Lens) ones to small compact cameras designed for everyday use or travel. And in each of those categories, you’ll find dozens of models from a lot of manufacturers, giving you a real hard time when choosing.

To save you some of that head ache, here is a list of the most feature-rich compact cameras available on market now. You may want to choose a cheaper one with less features, and that’s OK, but the models below have the most features per dollar and are still easy to use (unlike more professional compact cameras that have manual settings).

Panasonic Lumix TZ7/ZS3. The Panasonic Lumix ZS3 (known in Europe as the TZ7) is a continuation of the successful TZ line, which has won a lot of awards (in fact, most of them) in the previous years as the best compact, travel and super-zoom camera. This model has more megapixels (10 for wide aspect, 12.7 for standard shots), a 12x zoom wide screen lens, a few more advanced features (like face recognition) and the ability to shoot HD video in a 1280×720 resolution with a framerate of 30fps. What’s even more special is the new recording format AVCHD Lite, which allows for a higher quality of the picture while making the file size lower.

The camera also has two microphones that work in stereo mode and have a wind cut function, which allows you to film outside with good audio quality. The Lumix cameras also have a great stabilization system (Mega OIS), which takes perfect shots everytime. If you intend to shoot longer videos, you should be aware that the TZ7 is a PAL camera that shoots only clips of maximum 15 minutes, while the ZS3 shoots as much as fits on the SD card (or until the battery dies). This is because of a few EU regulations.Feature-Rich Compact Cameras

Canon Powershot SX210 IS. The Powershot SX210 IS is another great compact camera that is a direct competitor to the ZS3, with the same feature selection, including HD video support and stereo microphones. The higher megapixel count allows it to shoot even larger pictures, which is always a bonus, and the 14x zoom (compared to the 12x on the ZS3), and an improved Dynamic mode that stabilizes video when moving and shooting or shaking the camera.

Fujifilm FinePix F200EXR. This is also a great compact travel camera, which is designed more for still shots than video (it has only a 640×480 VGA mode and one microphone), but as a result, costs less than the above two. The features are pretty standard: a 12 megapixels widescreen sensor, 5x zoom + 14x digital zoom, a lot of effects when shooting, face recognition, image stabilization and a few other features. What also makes it good for travel (for some people at least) is the ability to switch between NTSC and PAL output modes, which allows you to output video and photos on any TV or recorder in any country.

Sony Cybershot DSC-W380. Sony always had great travel and compact cameras in their Cybershot line. The W380 is no exception. It has a 14 megapixels sensor with a 5x optical zoom, auto/manual focus modes, image stabilization, the usual effects and shoot modes selection, and it supports HD video recording, although no stereo audio is available. A good reason to choose this camera is it’s smaller size, compared to the others on this list, but the price is as high as that of the ZS3, so you need to consider things carefully.

Samsung WB650. Samsung was known for their cheap digital cameras with few features and bad construction, but the last 2 years have seen a drastic change. Now they make high quality devices (and that applies not only to their cameras, but also to their TV’s, laptops, monitors and other products) at very affordable prices, which make them a great choice for anyone. The WB650 compact camera is packed with features, from a 12 megapixels wide sensor with an amazing 15x optical zoom to a built in GPS navigator with tagging features and a great AMOLED display, which saves energy and has excellent contrast under any conditions. Other features are pretty standard, with lots of effects and shooting modes available to the user.

There are a lot of other great models on the market, but as I said, the above are the best if you want a lot of features, ease of use, compact size and relatively low price. You could also get an older high-end model, which would be cheaper but still have the features selection of the above-mentioned cameras.
